Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works as a commentator for NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She received an Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. In 1976, Mitchell was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She joined NBC News Washington two years following that as general reporter. In 1981, she began covering for the White House, and in 1988 was named Chief Correspondent to Congress. In 1992, she was appointed Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV program Meet the Press and also was the host for the program. Mitchell participated on a panel during the debates in 1988 among George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for excellence in journalism. In 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Her reporting included a number of important stories like the Iran-contra scandal, the tax reform and the budget and also the issue of arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively with President Reagan during summits with Mikhail Gorbachev.
